I saw cupcakes and rice krispie earth treats on somedaycrafts.blogspot.com ( you have to see these so bright and tempting to eat and no bad food dye)
and if you need a fun kid project what about Oscar the grouch made from recycled things and Oscar cupcakes too at bobbicamacho.blogspot.com I also learned to turn off all your vampire electric plugs today toaster, Kitchen aid, lights you don't use etc.. for today and every day, it can reduce your energy and your bill by 10% if you do it daily. Here are some books I read during Earth day celebrations: The EARTH book by Todd Parr is a good one, and a fellow male blogger had Todd in his classroom as a guest last month, I was so jealous. his blog is followingyourbliss.blogspot.com, he is so creative but don't expect blogger coments from him he never does it, he is not in the loop and to busy as a teacher for that, Laugh out loud but seriously his blog is great.
I read a lot of books about trees and planting them, and Arbor day Square is a great one. Curious George has a book about planting a tree also. I love to read Just a dream by Chris VanAlsburg and I try to read William Steig's Abel's Island. A newer earth day book is Fancy Nancy and everyday is earthday.
Ashley Bryan's book is very colorful and kids like to hear it again and again.
The Lorax is a best bet, by Dr. Seuss to talk about taking care of the earth.I just ordered a book called Alejandro's gift from paperback swap, it won't get her on time for my unit, but it's another book about the earth and taking care of it, so it's always a good time to read those. I am big on teaching and reading poetry I read The EARTH is painted green. He used blue and green paint to create his own earth on a circle piece of easel paper.
The magic school house always has fun and educational concepts.
