floating crabs... to practice letters in the pool..
The mermaid cake.. was a lot of fun..they did it all.. so it was really messy.. but fun.. the hair was so fun and would have been longer if they stopped eating the cupcakes... I could not figure out how to make hands...
I have been reading many mermaid books here are just a few..

the mermaid sister is one of my favorites.. about a girl who wants a sister not a brother... and all that can come with a brother and without...
this boat was used...in a race... It sits in Storm King Art Center int eh south field... it was created by Roy Lichtenstein... it is a MERMAID.. and I purchased a child's art book about Lichtenstein.. in the gift store... We did a lot this week, my son and I.. We created paper mermaids..and a large mural mermaid. ( I am too tired to scan at this time)..why did I choose a mermaid theme with a son...? because next week is pirates.. and because when I was a little girl I played mermaid in the pool for hours.. and he likes me to play that I am a mermaid and he is a shark... the kids painted her tail with bingo markers... brushes to do the water and her hair was easter cellophane... pink... and her bikini top was sequins...
Even grown ups like mermaids.. every June at Coney Island.. grown ups get crazy and dress up like mermaids.. see photos at coneyisland.com

Oh, how fun; I want to play mermaid and shark! I bet there is a lot of splashing n' giggle!!!
Fun post! In Norfolk, VA they have mermaids all downtown, decorated in different ways. I need to go and take some pics sometime. When you go towards the Outer Banks there are
horses. Pegasus helped the Wright Brothers learn to fly...I will see if I can find that book. Your son would love it~
