You may have dreamt about it. The white sand beaches, the blue water, the surf washing up between your toes, a firery sunset.
I have been to Aruba only once in my life and St. Lucia only once. I love seeing new places, but don't love to travel. The plane, the packing. Not my favorite thing.
In both places the living conditions for the locals was severe poverty and they hardly had shelters, its so difficult to see, when here we are feeling we need a vacation from our HARD lives.
honeymoon in St. Lucia.
I loved both places for the rich colors, and the no responsibility feeling, I believe everyone needs a break from life and work with few responsibilites as possible. I find myself thinking of these 2 island getaways often. Maybe because my husband and I can't financially travel as much as we would like, maybe because as busy parents we dream of a retreat. I love retreats even church retreats. Retreats are important to give you renewal and rejuvinate you.
This is me in Aruba 10 years ago maybe at the flying fishbone resteraunt, my dad had recommended I go to it, and it was the best advice I got about the trip. Strolling into the flying fishbone was like coming ashore in Casablanca. Everything about this intimate seaside restaurant whispered exotic warmth, from the tropical plants and wicker chairs in the sand overlooking the water, to the softly flickering candles, when the sunset appeared. It is in Savaneta Aruba, the oldest fishing village, fresh seafood is the big catch, but the main courses also include a wide variety of innovative, and healthy specialties such as truly delicious veal ( I did not have) my companion did. I so enjoyed dining on the crescent of a powdery beach.
If you are traveling to Aruba in the nearby future look them up www.flyingfishbone.com

and if Islands aren't for you - that's cool too maybe your IDEA of a fun vacation is just relaxing in florida with a big ICE CREAM or going to ICELAND whatever you like Enjoy it once in a while you deserve it, and I will keep dreaming of those white beaches and blue water-

YES! YES! Islands ARE for me! I'm so enamored with the oceans of the world. Probably should have been an oceanographer. Hey, I still could be, huh? :)
Great post. I don't really care much for the beach, I'm more of a mountain person but I want to go the beach now! Mmmm, fresh fish. Do they have Sushi?
