Here I am one day behind on my A to Z challenge.. Letter L is for Leadership..
* M will be a day late.. because I am part of a large fashion show tonight... and I have been preparing for this event....
I am on the second business course... and this time the book is By John C. Maxwell and it's called the 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership....
So it's go a terrific amount of leadership chapters....
inside covers says... Find out why...
* Abraham Lincoln went from militia captain to private during the Black Hawk War
* Lance Armstrong's Tour de France wins were made possible because of good leadership.
*So many people lost their lives or got stranded during the Katrina disaster in New orleans
* The CEO of the world's ninth-largest retailer has a no-frills office, answers his owns phone, and takes a salary that puts him in the bottom 10 percent of CEOs.
*Henry Ford nearly sent his own company into bankruptcy
* The laws of the lid is the most important leadership principle you will ever learn...
So I read the Law of the lid last night....Chapter one...
Leadership ability is the lid that determines a person's level of effectiveness. The lower and individual's ability to lead, the higher the lid on his potential. The higher the individual's ability to lead, the higher the lid on the potential.
So then I read how to apply the law of the lid to your life...
1. List some major goals ( focus on significant objectives-things that will require a year or longer of your time. List at least 5 but on more than 10 items) Now identify which ones will require the participation or cooperation of other people. For these activities, your leadership ability will greatly impact your effectiveness.
2. Assess your leadership ability. Complete the leadership appendix and get an idea of your basic leadership ability..
the appendix questions were about influence, navigation, solid ground.. etc.. I scored well.. but not soaring...
3. Ask others to rate your leadership. Talk to your boss, your spouse, two colleagues ( at your level) , and three people you lead about your leadership ability. Ask each of them to rate you on a scale from 1 to 10 being high... they should rate on
if you are a people person
if you plan and strategic think things out
if you have good vision.. and I don't mean eyesight
if you can and do get results....
Then you average the scores and compare them to your own assessment. Based on these assessments, is your leadership skill better or worse than you expected??? If there is a gap between your assessment and that of others, what do you think is the cause? How willing are you to grown in the area of leadership???
I was a women who emotionally ate through most of my 20's all of my 30's and am now learning how to NOT emotionally eat. I help other women do the same, and in the process we feel connected, needed and happy.

1 comment:
I can lead, but rather do my own thing. I do think I lead the meeting the other night, now that I think about it. I went to my first Writer's Group; it was small, but interesting.
