Tooth Fairy

So the Easter rush is over, the baskets... all turned over... and all the "good" candy is gone.. my vacuum... is still trying to process this stringy "grass" stuff... but the teeth must be brushed.. and well...after
Seriously.. most of it.. I hid or threw away.. but still he had more than he should of colored dye and sugar.. but still the teeth.... They need to be cleaned.... so the tooth fairy is happy with the tooth we leave her...

* we watched this movie.. a few months.. back.. funny but more for a 8 year old.. I think.. but my son asked me if it would be this guy.. or a little fairy... SO funny.

My son lost 2 of his bottom teeth... and now he calls his adult teeth his "Shark TEETH"... but we have been talking about the Tooth Fairy.. he even wrote her 2 letters... Here are a few books.. we read:

Arthur is not one of my favorites... but my son loved the idea of trying to trick her.. but we talked about how tricking someone hurts there feelings... He said.. ( new word- he learned on Martha Speaks) maybe the tooth fairy is Gullible???? again So funny

We read Toot and Puddle a lot.. and this talks about a tooth....

So my son has not read many of Victoria Kann's books.. Purplicious... Pinkalicious... etc.. but this one is about the tooth fairy.. she looses her SWEET tooth.. My son and I so need to loose our SWEET TOOTH!

This book by Margie Palatini..was very interesting.. lots of puns and very wordy text.. but the fairy godmother and the toothfairy... are in it together.... I even had to look a word up.. Folderol??? do you know what it means...? I do now...

This book is older...1975 and has been re released.. but the pictures are better in this version.. I think...

They do discuss.. the possibility of there being no tooth fairy.. so either edit.. or leave out.. if you have young believers....

this is fun.. too.. Tooth Fairy Magic by Joanne Barkan

This book I own.. and have had it for many years.. in my classroom.. during Dental week... I like it as it
talks about other countries traditions... with loosing teeth.. In the back it has the parts of the tooth... and the names...
A dentist read it and had this to say:

"Teeth fall out all over the world. What do you do with yours?" There is so much more than just the tooth fairy! I have to admit I knew very little about some things kids do with their lost teeth. It was enlightning and entertaining reading. Some research seemed superficial: "Germany: I don't do anything special with my tooth". Children get a geography and cultural diversity lesson. The illustrations show children of different race and attire. I am sure this book can be a great catalyst to investigate about other societies, their habits, and heritage. After reading the book I was surprised to find out how many of my little patients know about "el raton". This is a book for kids and parents of all ages, and can even teach  pediatric dentists some new lessons."

One of the books I purchased.. came with a velvet bag..to put your tooth in a night... but YOU guessed it.. the night he lost his first tooth... I couldn't find the book or the bag... so we used an envelope..
but if your not as careless as me... go to ...www.purlbee.com
she sews beautiful things.. and this is one of the things she makes.... with drawstring... tops

For girls I found a website called the real toothfairies   it's really cute for 7 or 8 year olds.. but not younger because I felt the tooth fairies.. looked a bit grown-up... and (sexy) but you see for yourself.. I might just be old fashioned....
I liked tooth fairy land... too.. it answered questions... www.toothfairyland.com
(can purchase the tooth fairy money here) or read the tooth fairy legend.....

I used a cute free site for my son's  first letter from the tooth fairy..( I know I am creative.. but I like to use other peoples graphics.. and this was cute.. it had boy fairies and girls) check it out....www.ultimatetoothfairy.com

Something I found afterward... and still could get.. is tooth fairy money.. when I was 6 my mom and I lived in Florida.. and once Christmas.. I received money.. with Santa's face.. on the center.. I kept this money (2.00 bill until just last year... when I gave it to my son.... for Christmas.. it was so magical... and REAL.. to me..
and I found someone on ETSY... (etsy is magical to me) who sells ....
While we are on the subject of tooth fairy money??? how much does your tooth fairy leave for a 1st tooth? I asked people on facebook.. OUR tooth fairy left $5.00 for the first tooth... but some of my facebook friends said $20.00??????wow.. what do you say????

Another cool thing I found was this... very well made.. certificate.. and record..keeper..
www.officeofthetoothfairy.com
So if you have a child going to loose teeth soon.. or if you have a grandchild... check out some of these great ideas, books and resources...

Here is an old post.. of a bulletin board....

A fun post! My son's 37 now, so I won't be reading any of these to him. :-)

My son stopped believing when he got £1 for a tooth one year then due to inflation it went down by half (50p) per tooth, he was most disappointed!

Thanks for the great suggestions on tooth fairy books! My youngest just turned 6 and is very excited about the prospect of the tooth fairy visiting. We came up with our tooth fairy tradtion from my 12 year olds best freind. They have been friends since kindergarten and when his friend was about to loose his tooth he was so stressed out. One day he admitted to his mother that he "didn't want no woman with wings flying around his room and taking his old teeth". His mom smartly said, no problem who would you like to be your tooth fariy", he chose his grandma. Even at age 12, whenever my son, or my 9 year old daughter loose a tooth they pick a "fairy". I am the cheepest one, I usally leave a small toy, or book, or baseball cards. My husband is a very generous tooth fairy and has been known to leave Beatles CD's and Barbies! Anyway, thanks for the fun post!

Who KNEW there was so much on the toothfairy! The Toothfairy was actually my downfall as secret gift-giver... she ended up outing the Easter Bunny and Santa because I was BAD at remembering those blasted teeth...

I think the only one of these I've seen is the Franklin one (which we own--must have been a gift)

Cute idea with the little bags.

So cute- my littlest is 10, and doesnt believe in the TF anymore...loved the Franklin book. One of my greatest regrets about not being a stay at home anymore is missing Franklin ("Hey it's Franklin...comin' to your house") and Lille Bear! Hahaha now you know a secret!
