L is for LIFE RENEWAL

So as I travel along on the A-Z challenge- I am  meeting new blog friends, some of whom might help me spirtualy and some who I just like to meet, I also realize things about me. I have begun to understand and acknowledge that it is time to address my needs physical, spirtually and emotionally it's not a weakness as some people may think it is a priority for me to be a better person and mother.
Have you lost the passion in your life?  Do you need to get your work-life recharged and renewed? Bonnie Michaels, an internationally recognized work-life expert, has been helping companies and individuals with work-life strategies since 1987.  When she experienced severe burn out, she took her own risky advice of "take time off" to recharge. So, with her husband, Michael Seef, they embarked on an unusual renewal journey. Imagine pulling the plug in mid-life and traveling around the world with one suitcase each, a simple plan and a budget. SOME of us can't take time to travel to recharge so how can we grow and figure out our direction for the future? Most of recharging is about taking time for yourself which is not easy if you are working and caring for children but ask yourself some questions?
Take a minute for yourself now and get a pen and paper and jot down these questions to help you make a life renewal plan....
1. Does the way you spend your time reflect what's important to you?
Make a list of the top 5 priorities marriage, children, volunteer work, an so on...
track how many hours you devote to each of these priorities each week. YES blogging counts, and commenting time.
2.Does your phone get more attention than your family and friends?
I was at a baby shower in Long Island yesterday and almost every women had there phone, and some were texting others were uploading pictures from there phones to facebook, Hey I love photos and what better than to instantly download but maybe switching off our phones at functions with family and friends is good, unless it's an emergency etc....
3. Are you nursing a gurdge or two? try to free yourself from anger a neighbor caused a co-worker etc...that stuff just eats at you emotionally and even takes away some energy.
4.Who should be in your life?
I find this one to be the hardest question of all for me-
Phase out any so called friends who offer criticism and negative energy. I had a friend of 13 plus years she was in my wedding I was in hers, etc.. We knew eachother well, we had some similiar interests but when she got divorced and began a new life, single we had less in common. She began to continue to judge me, and speak to me like a parent not a friend. She gave me a lot of criticism and even got my husband in on it at times, I felt terrible ending our friendship and even felt guilty that I was not strong enough to do the old sticks and stones will break my bones but comments will never hurt me.
5. Have you typecast yourself? YES I have and I am trying not to...
"MOM" is not the whole of who you are- if it is it may be draining you of other expressions of your authentic self- unfulfilled.
6. What battle are you fighting?
Is someone letting you down at work or at home. Do you blame your husband for the pain of a past relationship? Are you doing what's best for your child? are you parenting with a chip on your shoulder from something that happened to you in your childhood?
7. Can you do a little Earth Day in your home?
swap your gas guzzler for public transportation once in awhile, use a thermos not plastic, go meatless once a week- plant a tree, teach your child to turn off the water while brushing teeth, take less baths even if they relax you.
8. What are you future goals?
write about the outcomes you hope for maybe give yourself a timeline
9. Who is standing in your way? For me it's not WHO is standing in my way but WHAT
I want to go back to school for a new career to reinvent myself at 40- but we don't have money for me to go back to school and I have undergraduate college loans still not paid
Maybe it's me standing in the way??? I usually don't self-loath but maybe???? try to treat yourself with kindness and respect.
10. What one thing can you do for just you daily?
It could be buying a late, it could be making a nice fresh salad for just you, it could be a bath, (dont' fill it all the way for the earth) It can't be buying yourself a new shoe, or clothing or make-up because money can't fill you up it has to be something that you enjoy and deserve daily and it does not have to be the same thing daily- but think what it could be???

"This decade we must claim the right to minister ourselves." OPRAH

So LETS all take a moment to write down this LIST and answer the questions about or LIFE and really try to LOVE LIFE and LAUGH more.
Tomorrow's post is letter M for Mother's and I will have old pictures of my birth mother and my grandmother who raised me and my step-mother who has been in my life since I was 2 or 3.

Wonderful thought provoking post! (And I love Mama Mia!) Not sure why I didn't find you before now. Glad I did today! I'm not a sushi lover (hope you can forgive that) but I do like your blog! :)

Looks like a great book. Everyone needs to "renew" themselves occasionally.

Great thought provoking post; I will definitely check out this book, I am 40+ and
trying to reinvent myself... not an easy task, at all! oops, I see Beth wrote the same thing... It is what I thought after I read it!
We all need to take inventory once in awhile and see where we stand! Thanks~
