Happy Birthday Dad

Here I am at 3 or 4 with my Dad he was about 22 years old. I am so proud and happy to be with him holding his race car trophy. My dad died in 2003- He had retired at 50 and built a home on a golf course in myrtle beach with my step-mother. They had been there a year or two and I had not been out to visit them, I made arrangements to visit in March, and then I just did not have enough money so I cancelled. I got a 6am phone call and it was my step mother telling me my Dad was gone. I was groggy GONE where?? She said he died last night???? From what You guys just went on a cruise a month ago, HE is not sick ?? What??? I was filled with emotions- thoughts racing, fear, but the tears did not come yet.  She said he had been sleeping and he woke her up thrashing and she thought he was dreaming she turned on the light and realized he wasn't dreaming and called 911. They couldn't save him, autopsy showed he had an enlarged heart and died of arithmia.
My Dad was a great father and a hard worker. He was a self-employed owner of an Autobody shop a very successful one at that. I miss him everyday - and wish I had seen him more, been nicer to him and told him I loved him more. When he died I made a photo album of his life and every picture I had of him is in there. I have all the cards he gave me that he wrote in.  He had cool handwriting for a Man.  I know he loved me- so life goes on. He never met my husband or my son Aiden. But my son talks about him, and we look at pictures together and we go to the cemetary together to visit.  He was very jovial and did not  stand for sloppiness, moods or 1/2 ass work (cob jobs) He was Italian, but he never taught us Italian, I wish he had, I think he thought it would make us sound ignorant, I disagree. I never spent a birthday or a holiday without my father from age 1-30 until he moved to Mrytle Beach.  He was a man who had a twinkle in his eye at holidays. He loved to just stare at his children, and say it's so amazing I made you- and your beautiful, at which point we would always roll our eyes.  He was very demonstrative and we had to kiss him upon entering a room, I hated it then, but I think it's a good family practice now.  He loved food, I guess that is why I am a foodie, LOL.
I idolize just you , your face I have memorized... words I said at his wake.
So it's almost Easter and the man who made the holidays fun isn't going to be with us this year. No cool bunny cake that he cut out, no funny jokes or pinches, no bloody mary's for us to sip- Just your memory.
In memory to my Dad and his parents my loving grandparents who are just like him- I have decided to have the Easter Egg hunt in there back yard, where we did it back in the day- Our children my sister and brother and mine, will run around my grandparents yard collecting eggs, so that for a few fleeting moments I can remember my childhood and my holiday with my father and grandparents. Then we will collect all of us and drive 40 minutes to my home to eat Easter dinner. Hope it's a good idea to you Dad and I hope the weather is sunny and warm for the kids. I miss you - I love you and Happy Birthday Buddy! ( he would say, Don't call me buddy I am not your buddy I am your father)

This posts is sweet and sad and wonderful. Makes me stop and think about my own dad (and mom too) and how much I need to appreciate everything about them while they are hear.

It is wonderful that you have made this photo album and share this amazing man with your son. What an absolutely beautiful tribute.
